Warning - Lost Timeline Error
In Season 3 - Episode 14, Paolo hides in the bathroom and watches as Ben and Juliet spy on Jack at the Swan Station. This represents an error in the story timeline. The beechcraft is still lodged high above the entrance to the Flame Station when we see Paolo spying on Ben and Juliet. Ben tells Juliet as they are entering the Flame Station to have Tom cover the entrance with the plane. Boone was killed when he climbed up into the beechcraft and it fell with him in it. Boone died 2 days before Locke and Jack retrieved the dynamite and blew the hatch door open. So if the beechcraft is still high above, then it’s safe to assume that at that point Boone is still alive. If Boone is still alive, then we know that Locke hasn’t yet opened the Swan Station hatch door.

I don’t think it’s an error.
Nikki and Paolo discover the Pearl hatch before Boone goes over the edge in the plane, but Paolo could have returned there at any time after he found the diamonds.
He found the diamonds shortly after (or during) Episode 12, Season 1 (when Kate finds the case of guns)– Jack and Co. are inside the Swan hatch about 10 to 12 episodes later. In LOST time that equals something like 15 to 20 days.
It seems odd that he would have waited two or three weeks to hide them, but maybe it just took him a long time to think of the perfect hiding place — he’s not the brightest bulb in the box — after all, he was first trying to hide them in the sand on the beach, and then he hid them in his underwear!! Gee, Paolo, do you think Nikki will ever look in there???
I guess their love life wasn’t so great after the crash — no wonder he was so whacked out — poor guy was frustrated!

I agree, it was never truly implied that he returned to the hatch to stash the diamonds directly after they first discovered the hatch. In fact, it could have been several weeks that had gone by. I now believe that the writers of Lost know what they’re doing…Now if only I could learn.

I would have to agree that this was an error because when Paulo is hiding the diamonds it shows Ben and Juliet staring at Jack in the monitor for the hatch which obviously indicates this scene took place after they went into the hatch which would also mean the small plane would have been on the ground already obscuring the entrance to the hatch. Later when Eko told Locke to take him to the ? he had to move the plane to get down inside. So it was an error on the writers part. It seemed kind of forced to have Ben and Juliet shown any way, for two reasons. 1) the formerly noted timeline error, and 2) if Paolo saw the “others” in the jungle you think he would have mentioned that he saw them. Sure he would have to had lie in order to cover up what he was doing, but he could have easily tweaked the details. Normally Lost has superb writing but this scene just didn’t cut it.

This isn’t an error. Juliet and Ben obviously could get into the Pearl themselves without touching the plane. Ben told Tom to move it over to hide it, and that is how we get the events of the episode “?”.
