Left behind, My thoughts.
Juliet is awesome
Ok so after this episode I really don’t know what to think about Juliet. She certainly isn’t the quiet, easily pushed around woman she was in her flashback. In fact as we saw tonight, she’s quite capable of kicking ass.
Ok so why would the “Others” leave her behind? I mean sure, they don’t consider her one of them anymore, not since they marked her-but leave her behind? Juliet must know so much about them, that really seems foolish to me. The information our Losties could get out of her could potentially endanger Ben’s people. My guess? Juliet has been left behind for a very specific reason, whether she knows it or not.
Think about it, she’s the most perfect spy the others have at the moment. Jack is certainly very fond of her, and we all know he’ll make sure she stays with him at the Losties camp. This will surely make it easy for her to gather information about our favorite castaways to hand back to the others.
Why do I think Juliet may be a spy? Well I didn’t really buy “they threw a canister through my kitchen window” story. There was the half-truths, the fact that she knew the barracks were off, and of course she knew she had the handcuff keys on her. It sure looks fishy, doesn’t it?
Then again, Juliet is a hard egg to crack. Maybe the Others really did leave her behind. It could be some sort of punishment, while at the same time Ben may benefit from her gathering information about the castaways, if he decides to take her back. We already know Ben likes to play mind games, maybe sending Juliet away to live with “bad” people is one of them. I’m pretty sure he thinks she’ll remain loyal to him. But after living with the Losties I think Juliet might join their side - so to speak. Especially with Jack’s influence. If she realizes that Ben is really just manipulating her, and never actually was going to let her go home if he could help it, she might just decide to stay with the castaways and help them out.
But as I said, who knows? Certainly she will be met with hostility, we saw enough of that in the preview. Not one single person in the Losties camp will trust her, she’s really gonna have to earn it.
Kate and her flashback
Ok, so not the most exciting flashback, but it did give us answers. For one we found out that Clementine (Sawyer’s and Cassidy’s baby) was not a con.
Cassidy and Kate’s friendship was interesting, even though I am not a big fan of Cassidy. Both of these two ladies have been screwed over, so to speak. Cassidy by the man who she loved, and Kate by her own mother. I suppose Kate’s back story was meant to mirror her front story with Juliet, i.e trust and mistrust. Nothing really very important there.
The most important part of this flashback was when Kate actually got to talk to her mother. She confirms Wayne hit her, something we already knew, but makes no mention of abuse to herself, so I’m guessing he didn’t hit Kate. What I found really quite interesting was that Kate really did convince herself she’d done it for the good of her Mom. “I did it for you.” she tells her mom in one last desperate plea for forgiveness. To which Diane replies “No, you did it for yourself.” Or something along those lines. And yes, I do agree, Kate did do it for herself. She even admitted it to an almost unconscious Sawyer in What Kate Did. She admitted she did it because she couldn’t stand that Wayne was a part of her.
But it’s possible Kate convinced herself she wasn’t doing it for her own selfish reason, no, she was doing it for the better of her Mother. Well, good ol’ Ma set her straight. She did it for herself, and oh, she also never wants to see Kate again……ouch.
Another extremely important quote is “You can’t help who you love.” No, you sure can’t Kate, and this could apply to either Jack or Sawyer. I’m gonna put my bet on Sawyer, because it parrels Diane and Wayne’s relationship in a way. I mean, on the island Sawyer is “bad” and Jack is “good.” Kate chose Sawyer despite this in I do. Yeah you can’t help who you love, and the right choice ain’t always the easiest choice.
Locke will do anything do get “closer” to the island
Even if that means leaving his friends behind…. I didn’t expect much less of Locke. We all know he has his own agenda. With Locke, you can never really tell whether he is doing something for the good of himself or the good of the Others. Well, now that he’s potentially being offered more answers about the Island, and that magic box with good ol’ dad in it, he sure as hell ain’t gonna go home with the Losties.
What’s interesting now, is that Locke now knows what Kate did(Or does he?). I wonder if he’ll keep it to himself, or let the Others know? And will it effect his view of Kate? Maybe not, if he’s still going with the whole “everyone gets a new life on this island.” Thing.
I think Ben is very interested in Locke, and vice versa. Maybe Ben thinks he will be able to manipulate Locke to become one of them, or at least stay with them. I think he could prove very valuable to the Others. However, Locke always works his own agenda. When he gets the answers he’s been seeking I’m pretty sure he’ll leave unless for some reason he decides to stay. The decision will be his own, either way.
Kate can really kick ass
She lost round one, but she won round two. I mean, it’s bad enough that you’re handcuffed to a person who kept you locked up in a cage and held a gun to your head, but when they start taunting you about something you really feel bad about….they are asking for it. I don’t think Kate meant to dislocate her shoulder at all though. However she seemed to enjoy painfully popping it back in. Afterall, Juliet had been taunting her again, I guess Kate enjoyed causing her a little bit of pain. At least she knows Jack saw her and Sawyer together now….I wonder if she’ll try and talk to him about it later on?
Sawyer being nice . . . Will it last?
I liked Sawyer in this episode. I’d guessed Hurley was conning him, but still it was fun to watch him try and make amends. I particularly liked the Aaron and Sawyer bits. What did I find really interesting about Sawyer in this episode? Even after he finds out the whole banishment vote isn’t true, he still continues to be nice. The old Sawyer would have spat a few, well chosen words at Hurley before retreating back to his tent and turning back into his old self. Even better, when Hurley told Sawyer he was the best leader they had, while reluctant, he seemed to accept it! Wow is this even the real Sawyer we’ve come to know and love?
Of course he couldn’t make amends with everyone now could he? Gathering from the death stares Sun was throwing his way, it’s gonna take a while for the two of them to patch things up.
The worst thing about Sawyer being nice and a stand in leader? Well we all saw hero Jack arriving back at the beach in the promo for next weeks One Of Us. Meaning Sawyer will most likely be thrown out of the leader role while everyone worships the of so wonderful Jack who just happens to bring the enemy back to camp. Not that I’m recommending Sawyer as island leader, but it would have been nice to see him looking out for others a little longer.
Goodbye Kate, Hello Juliet
When Jack wakes up, what’s one of the first questions to pop out of his mouth? He asks if Juliet is close by, of course. Don’t mind the fact that Kate’s just cried her heart out and apologized to you. No…ask about the chick who’s shoulder kate’s just dislocated. Well, I gotta cut Jack some slack here. Even if Kate was trying to help him, she kind of did ruin his chance to ever go home. Still I wished he’d said something to her after she’d apologised. Told her it’s okay or shouted or something, he seemed to just ignore the apology altogether.
I also noted that Jack and Juliet shared the exact same lines when they met up again in this episode. (I’m pretty sure anyway) The whole, “Are you ok?” “yeah, you?” was what the first words Kate and Jack exchanged in I do….mmmm….interesting, though not really important.
So, Jack pretty much ignores Kate, asks Juliet if she’s ok and decides to take her home. Things are looking good for those two.
Sayid is Smart
Even though it would make next week less exciting, I agree that they should leave Juliet behind. Well at least he will get to integrate Juliet, and I hope he gets some good answers.
My thoughts for next week…things will be different
The joys of having the Doc back will be cut short as soon as Juliet walks into view. I hope the Losties question him and give him hell for it, even if Juliet isn’t out to get them. I mean, Jack is bringing in someone that has helped steal, kill, and kidnap their own people, they gotta give him some grief over it.
I’m pretty sure Jack will be keeping a close eye on Juliet, and that in turn, she will be by his side, since no one else will want anything to do with her (except Sayid, but that’s not for nice reasons.)
And as for Kate and Sawyer, that hug looked pretty meaningful. It also seems to be a lot longer than they let on in the promo. I’m hoping for (though not holding out for) the apology from Sawyer that Kate asked for.
I’m guessing the Square might start to form in this episode. With Sawyer or not, Kate ain’t gonna be happy that her pal Jack is trusting someone who she deems untrustworthy.

Exactly, even if she was left behind as punishment by Ben, he probably plans to manipulate her later anyway-he’s too smart not to.
